COMMERCIAL SMART LOCK DEPLOYMENT PROCESS

  1. Site Survey and Panel Assessment

We walk the property, document existing panel make/firmware/version, and confirm integration path for your chosen platform before any hardware is specified.

  2. Hardware Specification and Quote

We specify lock form factor (cylindrical, mortise, retrofit cylinder), power source (battery or hardwired), network interface module, and reader credential type. Written itemized quote per door.

  3. Installation and Network Commissioning

Hardware installed, wireless pairing completed, network interface modules configured and tested for panel communication. We run a door-by-door signal strength verification before commissioning.

  4. Panel Integration and Credential Database Load

Access control panel configured for the new hardware. Existing credential database imported. Door schedules, access levels, and lockdown profiles transferred and verified.

  5. Commissioning Test and Handoff

Every door tested: valid credential grants access, revoked credential denies, log records appear in the panel within the expected update window. Facilities staff trained on daily operation.

THE COMMERCIAL CASE

Wire Your Building Without Running Wire.

A commercial building with 40 interior doors can cost $200 per door or more in conduit and cable labor for a traditional wired system. Online wireless platforms like Aperio and Salto Neo cut that cost substantially: the lock communicates over a wireless channel to a small hub or gateway, and the gateway connects to your existing network. One licensed electrician visit to power the gateway, and 38 doors are online.

A Dallas Class B office with 62 suites runs Aperio on every interior door tied to their Lenel panel. When a tenant vacates, property management revokes their credential set from the panel and all 12 doors they had access to update within seconds. No rekeying, no hardware replacement, no waiting for a locksmith to visit each suite.

  • Real-time credential revocation across all doors simultaneously
  • Mobile credentials: Apple Wallet and Google Wallet on same platform
  • Battery status monitored remotely. No surprise lockouts.
  • Retrofit options: keep existing door prep, add wireless electronics

COMMERCIAL SMART LOCK FAQ

What is the difference between Aperio, Salto Neo, and Allegion ENGAGE?

All three are commercial online/offline wireless lock platforms, but they integrate into different ecosystems. Assa Abloy Aperio communicates over a dedicated wireless bus and integrates with most major access control panels (Lenel, Software House, Genetec, CCURE). Salto Neo uses BLE and 2.4 GHz radio for higher-throughput data updates with a built-in local database. Allegion ENGAGE works natively with Schlage hardware and AD-series cylindrical locks, tying into the Allegion ecosystem and popular panel brands. We install all three and recommend based on your existing panel infrastructure.

Can commercial smart locks integrate with our existing access control panel?

Usually yes. Aperio has the broadest panel compatibility, covering over 100 PACS integrations. Salto Neo has direct integrations with 70-plus panel brands. Allegion ENGAGE works via Schlage's network interface modules (NIMs) and integrates with Lenel, Software House, Honeywell Pro-Watch, and others. We assess your panel make and firmware version before specifying hardware to confirm the integration path.

What is the read range and update speed for wireless commercial locks?

Online wireless locks update credential databases in real time over Wi-Fi or a proprietary wireless channel. This means a card revoked at 9 AM is denied at 9:01 AM. Offline locks store a local database updated when a user presents their credential or at scheduled intervals. Aperio and Salto Neo support both online and offline operation on the same platform, making them reliable when network connectivity is intermittent.

Do commercial smart locks support mobile credentials?

Yes. Aperio, Salto Neo, and Allegion ENGAGE all support BLE and NFC mobile credentials through HID Mobile Access, Apple Wallet, and Google Wallet depending on model and firmware version. Mobile credentials eliminate plastic card management for commercial tenants and simplify provisioning for facilities directors. See our mobile credentials page for platform-specific implementation details.

How are commercial smart locks powered?

Most wireless commercial locks use 4 AA batteries with 12 to 24 months of battery life at normal use frequencies. Battery status is reported remotely through the access control platform so facilities teams receive low-battery alerts before lockouts occur. High-traffic doors where battery life is a concern can use power-over-ethernet (PoE) or a local hardwired power supply with battery backup.

Can we retrofit existing commercial hardware with wireless capability?

Often yes. Aperio and Allegion ENGAGE have retrofit cylinder and lockset options that keep the existing door hardware while adding wireless electronics. This is significantly less expensive than full hardware replacement and avoids door prep work on heavy commercial frames. We assess the existing lockset make and model to confirm retrofit compatibility before quoting.

What audit logging does a commercial smart lock platform provide?

Online commercial platforms log every access event: credential presented, access granted or denied, door held open, door forced, battery low, tamper detected. Logs are timestamped and stored in the access control platform database, searchable by door, credential, or time window. For compliance-driven environments (healthcare, finance, law firms), this log chain is typically required by auditors. We configure log retention policies and reporting templates as part of commissioning.

Do you service commercial smart lock platforms you did not install?

Yes. We service Aperio, Salto Neo, Allegion ENGAGE, Dormakaba, and Schlage AD-series platforms statewide. Call (888) 601-6005 with the platform name and symptom for a same-day diagnosis call.
