SPRING EMERGENCIES WE RESPOND TO NOW

  • Torsion Spring Snap

You heard a loud bang from the garage. The door stopped mid-travel or will not move at all. This is a torsion spring fracture. Disconnect the opener, leave the door in place, and call us now.

  • Paired Spring Rebuild

One spring broke. We replace both as a matched pair. The surviving spring is within the same wear window and will fail again soon. One call gets both springs replaced and the door balance restored tonight.

  • Commercial Multi-Spring Failure

Loading bay door is down. Wide commercial doors run two to four springs, and one broken spring puts unequal load on the rest. We stock commercial-grade springs and dispatch immediately for business-critical failures.

  • Cable and Spring Combo Failure

Spring broke and the lift cable unwound or snapped from the sudden load imbalance. The door may be sitting at an angle. We address both the spring and cable in one visit so the door is fully operational before we leave.

HOW 24/7 EMERGENCY SPRING REPLACEMENT WORKS

  1. Call for Immediate Dispatch

Describe the situation: loud bang, door stuck, car trapped, spring visible on the shaft. We answer in under 30 seconds, route the nearest technician immediately, and give you a live ETA. Trapped-vehicle calls move to the front of the queue.

  2. Technician En Route with Springs on Board

Service vehicle carries torsion springs for residential single and double-car doors plus commercial-grade springs for bay doors. Median Central Austin arrival: 14 minutes. You receive a call 15 minutes before arrival with exact ETA.

  3. Both Springs Replaced, Door Tested, Car Out

We quote the exact price before any work begins. Old springs safely removed using calibrated winding bars. New matched pair installed and wound to specification. Door balance tested at mid-height before reconnecting the opener. Completed and verified before we leave.

WHY WE COME AT 2 AM

200 Foot-Pounds of Stored Energy. This Is Why We Come to You.

A residential torsion spring is wound to store more than 200 foot-pounds of rotational energy when the door is closed. A commercial spring stores 300 to 600 or more. That stored energy is what makes a 200-pound door feel light. When the spring fractures, that energy releases in an instant, which is the loud bang you heard. The spring is not just broken: it is a wound-steel hazard that requires calibrated winding bars and a trained sequence to safely release before anyone touches the hardware. This is not a YouTube repair.

We come at 2 AM because the alternative is leaving a 200-pound door immobilized over your vehicle, or watching someone get hurt attempting a repair without the right tools. Texas heat cycles - daily temperature swings of 40 degrees or more between a cool morning and a 110-degree afternoon - stress spring coils more than moderate climates. Springs that are rated for seven to ten years in the northeast often reach end-of-life in five to seven years in Austin. A 2 AM failure is not random: it is a spring that finally hit its cycle limit.

Same Rate at Midnight as at Noon

Most companies add an after-hours premium. We do not. The rate we quote on the phone is the rate on the invoice, whether you call at noon or 11 PM. A torsion spring replacement for a standard residential double-car door runs $225 to $375. Commercial bay door springs run $450 to $700 for most single-bay doors. We quote the exact price before any work begins, and we stock the parts to complete most repairs on the first visit.

  • Same rate at 2 AM as at 2 PM. No separate after-hours charge.
  • Torsion springs for residential and commercial doors on every truck
  • Both springs replaced as a matched pair on every call
  • One-year labor warranty on all emergency spring work
  • Door never left unsecured if parts must be ordered

Do Not Attempt to Operate the Door

With a broken torsion spring, the opener motor is carrying the full door weight instead of roughly 10 percent. Motors burn out in minutes under that load. Pull the red emergency release cord to disconnect the opener, leave the door in its current position, and call us. Every minute the opener runs with a broken spring increases the chance of adding a $400 to $800 motor replacement on top of the spring repair.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you charge extra for emergency spring calls at 11 PM or 2 AM?

No. Our rates are the same 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. A torsion spring replacement at 2 AM costs the same as at 2 PM. Emergency spring failures happen on their own schedule, and we price accordingly. The rate we quote on the phone is the rate on the invoice.

Can I manually open the door while waiting for you to arrive?

No. Do not attempt it. A residential door without functioning springs weighs 150 to 250 pounds and a double-car door can weigh over 300 pounds. The springs normally carry 90 to 95 percent of that load. With a broken spring, you would be lifting nearly the full door weight, and the door can drop suddenly if you lose your grip or the cable snaps from the unbalanced load. Disconnect the opener by pulling the red emergency release cord and leave the door in place until we arrive.

Why do you replace both springs when only one broke?

Both springs were wound and tensioned on the same day and have accumulated the same cycle count. When one fractures, the other is within the same wear window, typically failing within weeks to a few months. Replacing only the broken spring restores function today but guarantees a second late-night call soon. We replace both as a matched pair to restore a factory-balanced door and prevent a repeat emergency.

What if I already ran the opener after the spring broke?

Stop using the opener immediately. Garage door openers are designed to move a spring-supported door, not lift the full door weight. Running the opener with a broken spring puts the full 150 to 300 pounds on the motor, which burns it out quickly. If you heard grinding or a burning smell, the motor may already be damaged. We test the opener after spring replacement and tell you whether it needs repair. Stopping now limits additional cost.

How long does emergency spring replacement take from the time I call?

Median Central Texas response is 14 minutes. Spring replacement itself takes 60 to 90 minutes: securing the door, safely releasing remaining spring tension, removing broken springs, installing a new matched pair, winding to specification, testing door balance, and verifying opener operation. Total time from call to door working is typically 90 minutes to 2 hours in metro areas.

Is my car going to be stuck inside overnight?

Almost never. We carry torsion springs for the most common residential single and double-car door sizes in Texas on every service vehicle, and we stock commercial-grade springs for warehouse and bay doors. We arrive, replace both springs, and test the door before we leave. If your door has a specialty width or non-standard spring configuration, we can manually assist opening the door one time with professional tools to retrieve your vehicle, secure the door, and return with matching springs.

How dangerous is it to attempt DIY spring replacement?

A wound residential torsion spring stores more than 200 foot-pounds of rotational energy. A commercial spring stores 300 to 600 or more foot-pounds. Releasing that tension without calibrated winding bars causes the bar to kick back with bone-breaking force. This repair causes documented serious injuries every year in Texas. The cost of professional emergency spring replacement is a fraction of an emergency room visit. Call us.
