WHAT WE HANDLE

  • UL 437 Cylinders

Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Schlage Primus, and Abloy Protec. Pick, drill, and bump resistance rated for 10-plus minutes under skilled attack.

  • Restricted Keyways

Patented key blanks not available at hardware stores. Keys cut only by authorized dealers with your authorization card. Tracks every key issued.

  • Master Key Integration

New high-security cylinders designed into your existing key hierarchy. No need to replace all locks. Server rooms and vaults get high-security treatment; common areas keep standard keys.

  • Insurance Documentation

Written installation record with UL rating and model for your insurance carrier. Many policies reduce commercial premiums 10 to 20 percent for UL 437-rated hardware.

HOW COMMERCIAL HIGH-SECURITY LOCK INSTALLATION WORKS

  1. Security Assessment

We walk the facility and identify doors that need high-security treatment based on asset value, access frequency, and your insurance requirements.

  2. System Specification

We select the lock brand and keyway based on your security level, key control needs, and existing master-key hierarchy. Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Schlage Primus, or Abloy depending on threat model.

  3. Cylinder Installation

High-security cylinders installed in existing Grade 1 hardware or new hardware where needed. Restricted keyway authorization cards issued to designated key custodians.

  4. Key Control Handoff

We document every key cut, register your facility with the manufacturer's key control program, and provide a written installation record for your insurance carrier.

THE SECURITY MOST BUSINESSES MISS

The Lock Is Only Half the System

A UL 437-rated cylinder stops a professional picking attack. It does not stop a former employee who had a key duplicated at a hardware store six months ago. Restricted keyways close that gap. When your facility uses a patented key blank that no hardware store stocks, unauthorized duplication is not a workaround problem. The key simply does not exist in the supply chain outside your authorized dealer.

For Austin businesses with rotating staff, tenant turnover in Sixth Street and downtown properties, or multi-site operations across Round Rock and Cedar Park, restricted keyways change the math on rekeying costs. Collect the key when an employee leaves instead of rekeying the building. At $150 to $300 per cylinder, that arithmetic compounds quickly across a 30-door property. Hill Country humidity also accelerates pin corrosion in older Austin commercial buildings; hardened high-security cylinders last significantly longer than standard brass-pin alternatives.

  • Patented keyways: no over-the-counter key blanks in any hardware store
  • Authorization card system: every key cut is recorded with custodian identity
  • Multi-site key control programs for businesses across 36 Texas markets
  • Written installation record with UL rating provided for insurance documentation

HIGH-SECURITY LOCK QUESTIONS

What makes a lock 'high-security' versus standard ANSI Grade 1?

ANSI Grade 1 measures forced-entry resistance: 10 strikes at 75 lbs. High-security adds three things Grade 1 does not require: pick resistance rated for 10 minutes minimum under skilled attack, drill resistance via hardened steel inserts, and restricted keyways that prevent unauthorized key duplication. Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Schlage Primus, and Abloy all meet UL 437 or equivalent, which is the combined standard.

What does 'restricted keyway' mean and why does it matter for my business?

A restricted keyway is a patented key profile that hardware stores do not stock. Keys can only be cut by an authorized dealer after you present an authorization card and verify ownership. When an employee leaves, you collect the key instead of rekeying every lock in the building. For a 20-door office, that key control saves hundreds of dollars per turnover event.

Does my insurance carrier require high-security locks?

Many commercial property and business owner policies offer a 10 to 20 percent premium reduction for UL 437-rated locks on server rooms, pharmacies, jewelry display areas, and storage vaults. Some policies require them for coverage of specific assets. Ask your carrier for the exact language. We provide a written statement of the installed lock model and UL rating for your records.

How do Medeco and Mul-T-Lock differ in practice?

Medeco uses rotating pins: each pin must both lift to the right height and rotate to the correct angle before the lock opens. Mul-T-Lock uses telescoping pins where inner and outer pins must align independently, plus an Interactive element in the key that engages a sidebar in the cylinder. Both resist picking and bumping through different mechanisms. Medeco has a broader dealer network in the Austin area; Mul-T-Lock is more common in government and institutional work. We stock both.

Can high-security locks be added to an existing master key system?

Yes. We design the new high-security cylinders into your current key hierarchy so your existing master keys continue to work. The restricted keyway patent applies only to the individual keys cut under it, not to the overall master-key tree. We map your current system before ordering cylinders so there are no surprises on install day.

What does high-security lock installation cost for a commercial building?

Schlage Primus cylinders run $150 to $300 each plus $75 to $125 labor per door. Medeco runs $200 to $400 per cylinder plus $100 to $150 labor. Mul-T-Lock is $250 to $500 per cylinder plus $100 to $150 labor. Abloy Protec runs $200 to $500 per cylinder plus $100 to $150 labor. A 10-door office prioritizing three entry points and one server room typically runs $2,500 to $4,500 total. Exact quote provided before any work begins.

Do you serve commercial clients outside Austin, including Round Rock and Cedar Park?

Yes. We cover Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Georgetown, Leander, Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, and 36 Texas markets in total. Commercial site visits are scheduled at your convenience. Call and we confirm your area and send a technician with the appropriate cylinder inventory.
