On-Site Assessment
Before any operator goes on, DASMA's own guidance requires the gate to swing or roll freely by hand. If it binds or drags, we address that first, since an opener is never a fix for a gate that does not move correctly under its own power.

WHAT TEXAS LAW REQUIRES ON AN AUTOMATED GATE
Two Independent Safety Devices, Not One, at Every Entrapment Zone
UL 325 Section 32.1.1 requires every vehicular gate operator to have a minimum of two independent entrapment protection means at each entrapment zone, and the two devices have to be of different types. In practice, that means an inherent force sensor built into the operator paired with a monitored photo eye or a monitored edge sensor, the typical residential pairing we install.
Every external sensor also has to be monitored: the operator checks that each device is present and working on every single open and close cycle, a requirement that became mandatory for all gate operators manufactured on or after January 12, 2016. If a sensor goes missing, faults, or loses its signal, the operator can only run under constant pressure or by hand, not on its own, until the fault is fixed. That is the difference between a code-compliant installation and a gate that just happens to open and close.

It sucks they charge an inconvenience fee of 49.00. Which I wish you would have mentioned this on our intial call. Transparency would have been to say hey we charge an inconvenience fee. Never once was this mentioned. When we spoke with the representative all she said was the locksmith will call you with a price. Never once did she say we take your payment info so we can charge you an inconvenience fee. If that was mentioned then this would have been handled differently. She made it seem like we need a card on file to help. Then they attempted to debit my card twice for two separate transactions for 49.00. I understand you run a business. But transparency is key. I specifically asked her what I would be charged for never once did she mention this. Lesson learned. Update***she reached out in regards to my Google review. Although I attempted to resolve per phone call. Shameless.

I have been a customer of pros on call for like over 2 years about and have had to call on them about 6 times. I had Zach come out to the property that I purchased out in Luling, Texas. It’s about 10 acres, and it has a garage with a corroded lock. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I install a gate opener myself?
DIY kits work on light, plumb, freely swinging gates with low daily cycle counts, and manufacturers state exactly those conditions in their own installation manuals. Where DIY goes wrong is heavy iron gates, slide gates, sloped driveways, high traffic, and skipped safety devices. Most DIY installs omit the monitored photo eye or edge sensor that UL 325 requires at every entrapment zone on an automated gate, which is the single most common gap we find when we take over a DIY install that failed its own safety check.
Is it safe to automate an existing gate?
Yes, when it is done to standard. UL 325 requires a minimum of two independent entrapment protection devices of different types at each entrapment zone, for example an inherent force sensor built into the operator paired with a monitored photo eye or a monitored edge sensor. ASTM F2200 governs the gate panel itself, including gap limits sized so a person cannot get caught between the gate and a fixed object. Automating a gate that was never designed for it, without adding those devices, is exactly the danger case UL 325 exists to prevent.
How much does it cost to add an opener to my existing gate?
A swing gate operator, including the required safety devices, runs $800 to $3,500 installed for a single leaf. A slide gate operator runs $2,000 to $7,000 installed, since the job also includes track and pad work. Both figures cover adding an operator to a gate panel you already own, not building a new gate panel. Is it dangerous to keep using my gate without safety sensors until I can schedule installation?
UL 325 requires monitored entrapment protection on every automated gate for a real reason: without a working photo eye or edge sensor, a gate can keep closing on a person, a pet, or a vehicle instead of stopping and reversing. Until your sensors are installed, do not run the gate unattended around children, and keep vehicles clear of its path whenever it cycles. This is a plain statement of what the safety standard requires, not an attempt to overstate the risk.
Do I need an electrician to install an electric gate?
It depends on the power source. A new dedicated 120V or 240V circuit run to the gate requires a Texas TDLR-licensed electrician and typically a permit for the trench and circuit. Our Texas DPS security services license does not grant electrical authority. Low-voltage DC operators fed by a plug-in transformer or by solar avoid most of that, which is exactly why solar kits are popular on long Texas driveways.
