HOW SCHEDULED LOCK INSTALLATION WORKS

  1. Call or Schedule Online

Tell us the number of doors, lock types you are considering, and your preferred appointment window. We confirm availability and parts before dispatch.

  2. Technician Arrives

Your licensed technician arrives with Grade 1 and Grade 2 deadbolts, smart locks, and knob-and-lever sets from Kwikset, Schlage, Yale, and Baldwin. Bore-hole prep tools on board.

  3. Door Assessment and Prep

We measure door thickness and backset, inspect existing bore holes, and check frame alignment. Minor prep work is completed on site. You see what is needed and the price before we touch anything.

  4. Lock Installed, Keys Cut, and Tested

Lock hardware mounted with 3-inch strike-plate screws into door-frame studs. Keys cut on site and tested from both sides. Smart locks configured and app access verified before we leave.

WHY HARDWARE SELECTION COMES BEFORE INSTALLATION

A Lock Installed Wrong Provides No Security Advantage Over a Cheap One

Door thickness, bore-hole diameter, and frame condition determine which lock hardware will function correctly on any given door. A Grade 1 deadbolt mounted in an undersized bore hole will bind. A smart lock installed on a door with more than 3/16 inch of warp will fail to auto-latch. Exterior doors in Hyde Park bungalows and Mueller townhomes have different prep requirements than hollow-core interior doors in a Cedar Park build-out. We measure before we recommend.

Strike plate mounting is the single most consequential part of the job most homeowners overlook. Builder-grade installs use 3/4-inch screws that bite only into door trim, not framing. A 75-pound kick-in test fails those mounts. We use 3-inch screws that reach into the door-frame stud, which increases kick-in resistance by a factor of seven over standard installations. This takes three minutes longer and is included in every installation price at no additional charge.

  • Door measured and bore hole confirmed before any hardware is selected
  • 3-inch strike plate screws into framing on every installation
  • Kwikset, Schlage, Yale, Baldwin, and Medeco stocked on every vehicle
  • Manufacturer warranty preserved with Texas-licensed installation

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

Scheduled an appointment for the morning after we closed on our house in Mueller. The technician showed up on time, walked me through the lock options, and installed new deadbolts on all three entry doors in about two hours. Fair price, clean work. Exactly what I needed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How far in advance should I schedule a lock installation?

Most scheduled residential installations are available same-day or next-day across Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Pflugerville. Call in the morning and we can typically arrive by afternoon. New construction builds that require multiple door prep appointments benefit from a 48-to-72-hour lead time so we coordinate with your contractor.

Do I need to buy the locks before you arrive, or do you bring them?

We bring locks. Our service vehicles carry Grade 1 and Grade 2 deadbolts, knob-and-lever sets, smart-lock platforms, and mortise cylinders from Kwikset, Schlage, Yale, and Baldwin. We show you options on site with pricing before any work begins. If you have a specific model already purchased, we install it at the same labor rate.

What is the difference between a Grade 1 and Grade 2 deadbolt?

ANSI Grade 1 deadbolts withstand 10 strikes at 75 pounds of force and 250,000 open-and-close cycles. Grade 2 is rated for 6 strikes and 125,000 cycles. Grade 1 is the standard for entry doors on homes in higher-traffic Austin neighborhoods like East Austin and SoCo. Grade 2 is adequate for interior and secondary doors. We assess your door and recommend the appropriate grade before installation.

Can you key all my new locks to my existing house key?

Yes. Keying new locks to match your current house key is a standard request. We repin the new cylinders on site to match your existing key before installation. This adds 10 to 15 minutes per lock and a small parts cost. You keep your current key and do not need to distribute new keys to family members.

How do smart locks hold up in Texas heat and humidity?

Hill Country heat and humidity put real stress on electronics and battery life. We recommend smart-lock models with ANSI Grade 1 mechanical components and weather-resistance ratings for outdoor installation. We configure app access, PIN codes, and auto-lock timing before we leave. Battery life in Central Texas conditions typically runs 6 to 12 months on standard AA cells.

What does residential lock installation cost?

Labor runs $75 to $150 per lock depending on door condition, hole preparation required, and lock type. Hardware ranges from $40 for a Grade 2 deadbolt to $350 for a high-security smart lock. A standard new-homeowner install of three entry deadbolts with hardware typically totals $300 to $550. Exact pricing is quoted before any work begins.

Do you install locks on doors that need frame or bore hole work?

Yes. We assess door thickness, existing bore-hole diameter, and frame condition before installation. Minor prep work, including filling old bore holes, widening holes to standard backsets, and shimming misaligned frames, is handled on site. Major door frame damage may require a carpenter first, which we identify upfront. Most residential installs proceed without structural prep.

Do you serve Georgetown, Leander, and other Austin suburbs?

Yes. From our Central Austin dispatch we cover Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Georgetown, Leander, Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, and 36 Texas markets. Scheduled appointments in suburban areas are typically available within 24 hours. Call and we confirm your area and next available time slot.
