WHY TEXAS GATES FAIL
Two Forces Wear Out a Texas Gate Faster Than the Manual Says
North Texas and Central Texas both sit on expansive clay soil that swells when wet and shrinks when dry, gradually pushing fence and gate posts out of alignment. On a gate, that shows up as a latch that stops lining up, a bottom corner that drags, or a gate that will not close flush. Texas heat is the second driver. Direct sun on a control box through a 100-degree summer cooks the board, softens the enclosure, and drains the backup battery faster, so shade over the operator and surge protection on the power line both add real years to the unit. It sucks they charge an inconvenience fee of 49.00. Which I wish you would have mentioned this on our intial call. Transparency would have been to say hey we charge an inconvenience fee. Never once was this mentioned. When we spoke with the representative all she said was the locksmith will call you with a price. Never once did she say we take your payment info so we can charge you an inconvenience fee. If that was mentioned then this would have been handled differently. She made it seem like we need a card on file to help. Then they attempted to debit my card twice for two separate transactions for 49.00. I understand you run a business. But transparency is key. I specifically asked her what I would be charged for never once did she mention this. Lesson learned. Update***she reached out in regards to my Google review. Although I attempted to resolve per phone call. Shameless.

I have been a customer of pros on call for like over 2 years about and have had to call on them about 6 times. I had Zach come out to the property that I purchased out in Luling, Texas. It’s about 10 acres, and it has a garage with a corroded lock. Out of all the companies I have called, which is roughly 5 to 6. He was able to take my call, head out the next day, and take care of the corroded lock I need fixed on my property. Why does my automatic gate open but won't close?
This is the single most common gate service call. Nearly always the close-side photo eye is the cause: dirt, spider webs, morning dew, or misalignment blocks the beam and the operator refuses to close as a safety response. A stuck vehicle loop detector can cause the same symptom. Wipe both lenses, confirm the alignment indicator lights are on, then power cycle the operator for 30 seconds. If the gate still refuses to close, the sensor or its wiring needs replacing.
Why won't my electric gate open?
Triage in this order. Check the breaker and transformer first, since a dead circuit stops the operator cold. Battery-backed DC operators fail intermittently as the battery voltage sags, so a gate that works sometimes and not others usually means a dying battery, not a dead motor. Test both the remote and the keypad separately to isolate whether the transmitter or the operator itself is the problem. If the gate hums or clicks but does not move, that points to the motor, gearbox, or control board and needs a technician.
Is it worth fixing a 15 year old gate opener?
Usually no. All gate operators manufactured on or after January 12, 2016 must meet the revised UL 325 standard, which requires external entrapment protection sensors to be monitored by the operator on every cycle. A unit built before that revision predates monitored safety sensors entirely, and parts for older operator lines are often discontinued or hard to source. Replacing a pre-2016 operator gets you a modern, monitored-sensor unit instead of chasing parts for a design the industry has moved past.
How much does it cost to fix an electric gate?
Overall gate opener repair, covering motor, board, sensor, or gear work, typically runs $130 to $1,500 in parts and labor. A diagnostic visit alone runs $75 to $175 residential (commercial diagnostics run $250 to $290) and is often credited toward the repair if you move forward. The wide range reflects the difference between a $50 sensor realignment and a control board replacement at the top of the $135 to $400 band. We give you the number before any work starts.

Is a gate stuck open an emergency?
It can be. Many gate operators are configured to fail toward an open, accessible state on a power loss or a monitored-sensor fault, so people are not locked in. Whether yours does depends on how the operator's power-fail setting was configured at installation. That said, a gate that will not close is a real security exposure for a home or a property, worth same-day dispatch rather than waiting.
