Yes, when it is done to standard. UL 325 requires a minimum of two independent entrapment protection devices of different types at each entrapment zone, for example an inherent force sensor built into the operator paired with a monitored photo eye or a monitored edge sensor. ASTM F2200 governs the gate panel itself, including gap limits sized so a person cannot get caught between the gate and a fixed object. Automating a gate that was never designed for it, without adding those devices, is exactly the danger case UL 325 exists to prevent.

UL 325 requires monitored entrapment protection on every automated gate for a real reason: without a working photo eye or edge sensor, a gate can keep closing on a person, a pet, or a vehicle instead of stopping and reversing. Until your sensors are installed, do not run the gate unattended around children, and keep vehicles clear of its path whenever it cycles. This is a plain statement of what the safety standard requires, not an attempt to overstate the risk.

It depends on the power source. A new dedicated 120V or 240V circuit run to the gate requires a Texas TDLR-licensed electrician and typically a permit for the trench and circuit.
